The semi-final lineup from the top half of the draw is complete, and we will see Novak Djokovic take on Jannik Sinner after the pair progressed from their quarter-final matches on Tuesday.
Djokovic was playing the day session for the second consecutive match, although he didn’t get on the court until later in the afternoon after Kostyuk and Gauff played a lengthy, error-strewn match.
When he did get on the court, the Serb had to weather a tricky opening two sets from Taylor Fritz before he got the wind in his sails to sprint across the line with a 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory in three hours, 45 minutes, the final two sets lasting just 82 minutes of that.
In the night session, Jannik Sinner continued his solid form to dispatch Andrey Rublev 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-3 in 2 hours and 39 minutes.

Djokovic Foils Fritz To Make Semi-Finals
Novak Djokovic entered Tuesday’s quarter-final with an 8-0 record vs Taylor Fritz, but after 2 hours and 30 minutes of play, there was little to separate them at one set a piece.
Djokovic won the opening set in a clutch tiebreak after saving two set points at 5-6. However, an early break in the second for the American and his saving of 7 of 7 break points with some brave tennis drew him level.
From there, the match looked finely poised as Djokovic struggled to capture a break of serve, having held 15 breakpoint chances across the first two sets without converting.
However, the Serb picked up his game, breaking twice in set three as he accelerated to a 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory in three hours and 45 minutes to make his 11th semi-final in Melbourne.
While Djokovic struggled with the heat initially and couldn’t break Fritz’s serve, he had a solid serving day, winning 82% behind his first serve while limiting Fritz to just 66%, proving the difference.
I suffered a lot in the first couple of sets, also due to his high-quality tennis. He was serving well, he was staying close to the line, he was kind of suffocating me from the back of the court. I was [playing] most of the rallies on my back foot. It was really difficult to find the right timing. It was extremely hot while the sun was still out there. Physically very draining, emotionally as well. At the end of the day, I managed to break him when it mattered, in the third and the fourth. I think I upped my game probably midway through the third set, all the way to the end Djokovic on his encounter with Fritz.

Highlights
Sinner Sinks Rublev
Jannik Sinner is through to his first Australian Open semi-final thanks to a 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-3 victory over Andrey Rublev.
While the scoreboard looks straightforward, the Russian was heavily involved in the first two sets and had multiple chances to take them, losing a 5-1 lead in the second set tiebreak, and he’s now lost all 10 of the Grand Slam Quarter Finals he has played.
Overall, while the pair were well matched from the ground, Sinner defended his second serve better, and Rublev lacked that little bit of variety or guile when he needed it, with all eight of the break points he created passing him by.
It’s also worth noting that Sinner was dealing with a minor injury, so seeing how he holds up against Djokovic on Friday will be interesting. You can’t afford to be physically flimsy against Novak.
