Carlos Alcaraz will be Novak Djokovic‘s opponent in the 2024 Wimbledon Championships final, and the Serbian has called him one of the greatest 21-year-olds tennis has ever seen.
The young Spaniard is a special player; there is no denying that. At age 21, he’s already up to three Grand Slam trophies and has a chance to win number four on Sunday at Wimbledon.
It’s the second time he will play in the Wimbledon final after making it last year, and he will be facing the same player again. After beating Lorenzo Musetti in his semi-final match, Djokovic was asked about Alcaraz and whether it will be a ‘different year and different outcome’, and he showered his opponent with praise, calling him one of the greatest 21-year-olds we’ve ever seen.
“I hope so. I’m sure he doesn’t hope so. He’s a great example of someone as a young player who has a well balanced life. He has a good family… a lot of charisma, and carries himself well on and off the court. He’s deservedly one of the greatest 21-year-olds we’ve ever seen in this sport. We’re gonna see a lot of him in the future, no doubt.”
Djokovic also added that Alcaraz will win many more Grand Slams in the future. However, he hopes the 21-year-old will lose the upcoming final on Sunday. The seven-time champion at SW19 admitted it will be a tough match for him, as he saw what he could do last year.
“He’s gonna win many more grand slams. Hopefully in 2 days, not this one. But I’m in the future.. when I retire in about 15 years. Jokes aside.. he already beat me in the final here last year in five sets.”
“I don’t expect anything less than that. A huge battle on court. He’s complete of a player as they come. It’s gonna take the best of my abilities overall to beat him on Sunday.”
