Djokovic Provides Insight into the Condition of His Knee Before Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic has been in London for a week, and he revealed the status of his knee ahead of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

The 37-year-old suffered an injury at Roland Garros in a match against Francisco Cerundolo, which he won. He withdrew ahead of his next match as Djokovic announced that he had a meniscus tear.

He underwent surgery almost immediately and started rehabilitation, which normally lasts about four weeks at the minimum. He had about three weeks to get it done, and he did because he showed up in London about a week ago.

Since then, Djokovic has practised at the event and played some practice sets, which he won. The only one he lost was against Jannik Sinner, who is obviously one of the best players in the world.

The Serbian also played a regular match against Daniil Medvedev at the Hurlingham Club, which he also won. Now, ahead of the season’s third major, Djokovic talked about the state of his knee during his pre-event press conference.

“I arrived here on Sunday. It has been a week of training, a very good one. I had very intense sessions, training with Sinner, Tiafoe, Medvedev or Ruusuvuori, today also with Rune. The knee has responded very well to all that so far, which is a good sign for my participation in Wimbledon, that’s why I have decided to stay in the main draw.”

The Serbian will only start on Tuesday, so that will give him an extra day before his match, which he may need, but given how his preparation went, it seems that the seven-time Wimbledon winner may even challenge for his eighth title.

“I still have a couple of days, I’m playing on Tuesday. I’m confident in the health of my knee, my general physical condition is very good.”
