Djokovic Receives Warning as Struggles Continue with Form and Injury

Novak Djokovic has faced challenges this year, and former Davis Cup champion Paolo Bertolucci is concerned about his performance.

Djokovic’s form this year has been below par, resulting in him losing his number one ranking in the ATP Rankings and failing to win any titles so far.

Not being competitive and suffering a knee injury in Paris has made the first half of 2024 a disaster for Djokovic.

While his fans remain hopeful that Djokovic can turn things around, Bertolucci doubts his ability to do so. The Italian believes Djokovic is approaching the end of his career and questions if he can add more to his legacy in the future.

“The signs are not good at all, the level of play is not that of a year, a year and a half ago. In other words, he is towards the end of his career and can find the set, the points, the game, the moment to phenomenon that he is. But he cannot be the hammer he was years ago.”

Bertolucci also questions Djokovic’s motivation, noting that the Serbian has openly expressed missing his family. This lack of motivation could be affecting his performance on the court.

“And then, now it depends on the motivations: he had those of the Slams and the Olympics. The first faded immediately, as we saw in Paris where, however, he was not in condition and in the more he got hurt. Now I assume he’ll miss the Olympics and if they don’t go well I think he’ll have to think carefully. He might not even qualify for the Turin Finals. I think about it 100 times.”
