Djokovic Remains Focused on Title Pursuit Despite Injury Challenge

Novak Djokovic once again confirmed that he’s not considering retiring from tennis, as he’s still motivated to succeed in the sport.

The 37-year-old Serbian hasn’t had the type of year he wanted to have in 2024, and it’s raised many questions. The knee injury certainly isn’t something he needed on top of all the struggles, but according to Djokovic himself, it didn’t hurt his motivation.

He has already held practices in London, and speaking to the media, he further confirmed that things were going in the right direction, even though he didn’t want to say too much about his knee.

“The plan was to try to play Wimbledon, so that’s what I’m doing. That’s why I’ve come to train and see how it goes. I can’t give many details about the knee, but it’s going well.”

“The rehabilitation is going in the right direction every day. Little by little it’s getting better. That’s what’s giving me hope and desire to keep going. I still have a week ahead of me, enough time. I’m going to do my best to find out how I am before the draw is made.”

Djokovic hasn’t yet confirmed his participation at Wimbledon, as he’s still assessing his situation. As Djokovic said, the decision will be made before the draw is out.

In the same talk with the media, the 24-time major winner also confirmed that he’s not considering retiring because he’s still motivated to compete.

“I’m not planning to retire and have this be my last Wimbledon, so I want to keep going and this year has been different, with this injury in Paris. It’s bad luck, but it’s part of the sport.”

“It’s the first time I’ve had a major knee injury, so I’m dealing with it day by day, as best I can and together with my team members. I’ve put in a lot of hours in the last two weeks on my rehabilitation. Probably more than if I wasn’t injured.”
