World No. 1 Novak Djokovic advanced to the semifinals of the Australian Open on Tuesday, defeating No. 12 seed Taylor Fritz 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in three hours and 45 minutes.

Striking 20 aces and winning 81 percent of his first serve points, Djokovic hit 51 winners against his American opponent.

Improving to 9-0 against Fritz in lifetime meeting, Djokovic will next face either No. 4 seed Jannik Sinner or No. 5 seed Andrey Rublev for a place in the finals.

Elsewhere, defending champion Aryna Sabalenka breezed into the final four after dismissing Barbora Krejcikova 6-2, 6-3. Needing one hour and 11 minutes to advance, Sabalenka will next face reigning US Open winner Coco Gauff.

Gauff required three hours and eight minutes to dispatch Marta Kostyuk, 7-6(6), 6-7(3), 6-2.

The American leads Sabalenka at 4-2 in their head-to-head series.

Wednesday’s action in Melbourne will feature No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz, No. 12 seed Qinwen Zheng and No. 3 seed Daniil Medvedev.
