Djokovic, Sinner & Medvedev Among Top Gainers In Ranking Points In 2023

Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, and Daniil Medvedev gained the most points throughout the 2023 season.

Djokovic, who began the year ranked 5th in the standings and with 4,820 points in the first week of 2023, gained 6,425 points – a figure that no player on the ATP Tour could match last season.

The Serb put together one of the finest seasons of his career, winning seven singles titles, including three Grand Slams. Djokovic was triumphant at the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open, taking his Grand Slam tally to 24 – a men’s record.

Djokovic was also victorious in two Masters tournaments – Cincinnati and Paris-Bercy – becoming the first man to win 40 Masters 1000 titles. As a result of his dominance and gaining over 6,000 points, he was the only male player who finished with five-digit ranking points.

The 36-year-old became the oldest year-end No. 1 after sealing that landmark at the ATP Finals in Turin, where he was able to clinch the 7th title of his career at the season finale.

Second in the top gainers list was Jannik Sinner. The 22-year-old hard-hitting Italian enjoyed a career-best season on the ATP Tour, winning four titles, including his first at the Masters level in Toronto. Sinner earned eleven Top 10 wins in 2023 and was part of Italy’s team that won their first Davis Cup title in 47 years.

Sinner gained 4,080 points during the season and finished at a personal-best ranking of World No. 4 (the joint-highest by an Italian man). World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev ranked third in this list, gaining 3,535 points last season.

The Russian won the most matches on tour (66) and bagged five titles. Carlos Alcaraz and Ben Shelton were among the top gainers with over 1,000 points. Alcaraz gained 2,035 points, winning two Masters titles and a second Grand Slam at Wimbledon.

Shelton, meanwhile, had an unforgettable first full season on the main tour. The 21-year-old American won a maiden ATP title in Tokyo, breaking the world’s Top 20. Shelton started the year with 584 points and finished it with 2,145 points.

Other notable mentions include Nicolas Jarry (who broke the Top 20), Alexander Zverev (who re-entered the Top 10), Tommy Paul, Ugo Humbert, and Grigor Dimitrov, who gained at least 1,000 points.
