Novak Djokovic is without a coach right now, but he has already found somebody to watch over his practices, and it’s a familiar name.
The Serbian spent the last five years working primarily with Goran Ivanisevic. His long-time coach, Marian Vajda, was part of his team at times during that period, but after their most recent split, the Serbian continued with Ivanisevic as his sole coach.
It was working well, as Djokovic kept adding to his trophy tally. That was the case last year, as well, as he won three out of the four Grand Slams and the ATP Finals. Everything seemed fine, but this year has been vastly different.
He failed to win the Australian Open earlier this year, and after another shocking loss at the Indian Wells Open, Djokovic made a significant change. He parted with his coach, a move that shocked and surprised many.
Djokovic himself declined to comment on their split when the media found him in Belgrade, but he did call Ivanisevic a good friend and part of his life, implying that the duo split on good terms.
Some other reports suggest that the split came after a pretty big argument. However, the clay season is coming up quickly, and Djokovic is already preparing for it, choosing Belgrade as the spot to do so.
Cameras have been closely following his practices, and a familiar name showed up to one of those. Nenad Zimonjic is a former player who primarily played doubles, winning three doubles Grand Slam titles and five mixed doubles majors.
He knows Djokovic very well, as they were part of the Davis Cup-winning team that won Serbia the competition over ten years ago in 2010. Will he be the next coach? That’s not clear right now, but he was there on the court with Djokovic, watching him practice.
