The Jacksonville Jaguars entered the 2021 NFL Draft with a seemingly easy decision to make.
They held the No. 1 pick in that draft, which they eventually used on Trevor Lawrence.
Lawrence was viewed as the consensus No. 1 player in the class, one of the most highly touted quarterback prospects in recent history.
He drew comparisons to Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck, but he still needed to go out on the field and prove himself.
The road hasn’t been easy, especially with the Jaguars’ organizational changes, but it appears that the team is pleased with the way things are going.
Head coach Doug Pederson was interviewed by the NFL Network, speaking about what the team is going to look like in 2024.
When asked about the team’s decision to extend Lawrence, Pederson said, “The decision was easy. You know, we all feel in the building that he’s our guy and that he’s obviously the face of the franchise.”
Pederson spoke more about his confidence in Lawrence moving forward, saying, “He’s on the right path, we built the pieces around him.”
The Jaguars appear to trust Lawrence with the team over the next several years, for better or for worse.
Teams can take a swing with young quarterbacks and miss, but they can also end up being the best decision a franchise ever made.
Lawrence still has plenty of time to prove himself, but if there was one season for him to put up massive numbers, 2024 would be the one.
