Jack Draper secured his inaugural ATP Tour-level title at the 2024 Stuttgart Open by defeating Matteo Berrettini in the final.
The talented British player has struggled with injuries in the past, hindering his success on the ATP Tour. However, his fortunes began to change in recent months with a finals appearance in Sofia late last year, setting the stage for his triumph in Stuttgart.
Along the way, Draper defeated Sebastian Ofner, Marcos Giron, Frances Tiafoe, and Brandon Nakashima to reach the final showdown against Berrettini, who had a string of impressive victories himself.
The final was a tight battle between two exceptional grass-court players. Berrettini claimed the first set 6-3 with a crucial break point opportunity, while the second set went to a tie-break after both players had their chances to break serve.
Draper managed to win the tie-break 7-5, forcing a decider in the third set much to the delight of fans.
Berrettini had opportunities in the third set but was unable to capitalize. Draper broke serve at a crucial moment and held on to secure a 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 victory, claiming the 2024 Stuttgart Open title and his first-ever Tour-level championship.
