Draymond Green has shared his thoughts on the Warriors waiving nine-time All-Star Paul George.
George has signed a one-year, $11 million-plus deal with the Spurs after being waived by the Dubs before free agency started.
The decision to waive Paul George puzzled many, especially since the Warriors had previously traded Jordan Poole to acquire him.
This move essentially meant that Golden State gave up Poole for nothing, swapping a 25-year-old for a 39-year-old, as Paul George only played one season with the team.
Despite the complexities, Green expressed his disappointment at losing a seasoned teammate and highly respected veteran.
“Another player that I’m really sad to see leave is CP [Chris Paul],” Green mentioned on The Draymond Green Show. “There may not have been reports about it, but I’m truly saddened by his departure. I envisioned CP finishing his career with us, and his exit is a tough part of this business.”
“Spending a year with CP made me realize how incredible he is and what a great teammate he is. His departure hit me hard. It’s tough losing both Klay [Thompson] and CP in such a short span. I’ve been trying to process my thoughts in the past few days.”
“Nevertheless, CP’s pairing with Wemby under Pop [Spurs coach Gregg Popovich]’s guidance is a smart move. CP will be a valuable mentor, especially for young players like Wemby and Stephon Castle. The Spurs made a brilliant decision.”
Paul George has a track record of improving the winning percentage of every team he has played for, so the Spurs are likely to benefit from his leadership and skills.
