Draymond Green revealed details about the conversation when Klay Thompson informed him and Steph Curry about his departure from the Golden State Warriors on the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show.
“I don’t really now how I feel about it,” he said. “Klay told us last week. I don’t know who he told but I know he talked to me, pretty sure he talked to Steph last week. And he just kind of was like, ‘Yeah man like, just kind of started talking through the years, like (it’s) been great, what we’ve done is so special.”
Green mentioned that he didn’t try to convince Thompson otherwise, instead he listened and respected his decision.
“When Klay told me, I was just able to listen,” he said. “It wasn’t like, ‘Yo we could finish like this’, or like, ‘You should rethink this.’ It was just like, ‘Wow, like alright, congrats bro, like I’m happy for you, that’s dope.’ You know and to obviously reassure that that (it) changes nothing for us. You know, like, changes the basketball court, obviously. But the relationships, they are what they are. They are forever.”
Green also revealed that he almost left the Warriors himself last season, considering a move to Memphis. He even informed Thompson, Curry, and coach Steve Kerr about his decision to leave for Memphis before ultimately deciding to stay after the Warriors offered him a four-year, $100 million extension.
