Dwight Yorke, ex-Manchester United striker, victorious in wrongful dismissal case against former club Macarthur FC – Latest updates on Manchester United and transfers

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke wins unfair dismissal case against old side Macarthur FC - Man United News And Transfer News

Treble winning former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has won a legal case against his previous employers, Australian league side Macarthur FC.

The former Trinidad and Tobago international scored 65 goals for United in 152 appearances.

He won the Premier League in three of his four seasons at the club, as well as the FA Cup and Champions League in 1999.

Yorke retired in 2009 and took up a managerial role with A-League side Macarthur FC in 2022.

He was in charge for only 19 games, winning 10 and losing six before he was fired after just six months in January 2023.

He was sacked after a dressing room rant in the wake of a loss during which he compared his players to a “pub team” and said the club was “run by Muppets”.

According to GOAL.com, the 52 year old is yet to receive financial compensation from his sacking almost two years ago.

“The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has upheld an unfair dismissal claim from the ex-Trinidad and Tobago international, with FIFA having already ruled in his favour. Yorke is due a payment of A$212,500 ($143,000), plus interest.”

The Sydney-based side have subsequently been hit with a transfer embargo until they pay the former United man the money he is allegedly owed.

In response to the decision Macarthur have stated, “the club is not concerned of the immediate effect of FIFA’s decision and is exploring further legal avenues available. The club is confident the matter will be resolved between now and January 2025. The club will be making no further comment on the matter.”

Yorke has previously spoken out on his sacking and claimed, “I don’t deny saying the club was like a mickey mouse slash pub team but that was not about my players. That was about the hierarchy in terms of how they run the team.”

The former United man has also bemoaned the lack of managerial opportunities he has been offered and claimed that new blood is never given a chance as the same old group of coaches are hired and fired almost like a conveyor belt.
