Every single year, there’s a lot of anticipation among players in the NFL about who will be the new cover athlete for the Madden video game franchise, as it is usually a player who is coming off a breakout season or a legend from the past like former Detroit Lions superstar Barry Sanders.

Last year, Buffalo Bills superstar quarterback Josh Allen had the honor of being on the cover of Madden 24, as he is widely regarded to be among the league’s elite players at his position and more than worthy of gracing the cover.

After the 2023 NFL season, plenty of candidates could’ve been in the running for the cover of the next edition of the popular football video game, like Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes or NFL MVP Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.

In the end, San Francisco 49ers superstar running back Christian McCaffrey got the nod after having an incredible season in the Bay Area, which resulted in a Super Bowl appearance and the best statistical season of his career up to this point.

Funny enough, Ed McCaffrey, former Denver Broncos star and father of the 49ers superstar, talked about his son being on the game’s cover and how his son destroyed the basement due to his competitiveness while playing the game via 49ers on NBCS.

“I mean, they played for hours and hours and hours in our basement, and I’ve got broken controllers and a hole in the wall to prove it,” McCaffrey said.

Christian McCaffrey is one of many of us who have been incredibly frustrated playing Madden and having things not go our way, but that’s the game, and that’s why it is so fun, as it can bring that competitiveness to the surface.

As for next season, McCaffrey and the 49ers will hope to bounce back from the Super Bowl loss and get back to the big game in hopes of winning it all.
