Edin Terzic plays down Gio Reyna’s January departure

Gio Reyna may be on the radar of several European clubs, but Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic isn’t expecting to lose the 21-year-old by month’s end on Thursday.

Reyna remains a hot commodity ahead of the closure of the January Transfer Window this week. The U.S. men’s national team attacker has been linked with a potential loan move away from Signal Iduna Park, with Marseille, Nottingham Forest, Sevilla, and several other European clubs interested in his services.

However, Reyna did deliver a positive 24-minute cameo on Sunday as the Black and Yellow defeated Bochum 3-1 in Bundesliga play, opening the door to a potential stay in Dortmund for the remainder of the season.

Whether or not Reyna will remain a Dortmund player come February 1 remains to be seen, but Terzic expects him to be part of Friday’s trip to Heidenheim.

“Gio is a fantastic player. Of course he’s not happy when he’s not playing,” Terzic said postmatch via DAZN. “You could see that Gio is capable of influencing the game from the bench. He was very confident on the ball, managed to create a few dangerous situations, but was a bit unlucky with his finishing in one or two situations.

“I expect him to be available to me on Friday,” the veteran manager added. “I haven’t heard anything else. Gio is under contract, Gio is our player and did well when he came on today.”

Reyna has started just one of his 11 league appearances this season, logging 341 minutes in Borussia Dortmund’s domestic campaign.
