2023 Canadian Junior Girls Champion – Eileen Park

Eileen Park, hailing from Red Deer, Alta., emerged victorious as the 2023 Canadian Junior Girls Champion at the prestigious Summerland Golf Club in Summerland, B.C. Park demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the tournament, maintaining her lead from start to finish. With rounds of 74-73-72, she finished the event at 3-under par, a remarkable nine strokes ahead of her closest competitors Elisa Wu of Vancouver and Jenny Guo of West Vancouver in the Junior Girls Division. A member of Team Canada NextGen, Park exhibited control and confidence over all three rounds of play.

During the final round, Park showcased her prowess by delivering a stellar performance. Despite a slight stumble with a bogey on the sixth hole, Park recovered swiftly by concluding her round with an eagle on the par five ninth hole, securing her decisive victory. Reflecting on her performance, Park credited her exceptional driver accuracy and focus on her short game as crucial elements contributing to her success.

Park’s triumph at the 2023 Canadian Junior Girls Championship not only earned her the prestigious title but also secured her place in the upcoming Canadian Junior Girls Championship presented by BDO, scheduled to be held from July 22-25 at Marine Drive Golf Club in Vancouver. Encouraged by her recent victory, Park views the tournament as valuable preparation for future competitions and aims to carry her confidence gained from this win into bigger tournaments throughout the season.

2024 NextGen Pacific Championship – Matthew Wilson Claims Victory

The 2024 NextGen Pacific Championship held at Summerland Golf Club saw Matthew Wilson, representing Nanaimo, B.C., emerge triumphant in the Junior Boys Division. Wilson’s impressive performance started with a strong opening round of 5-under 67, setting the pace for his eventual victory. Despite facing stiff competition from Joshua Ince of Surrey, B.C., Wilson showcased his skill and determination to clinch the championship.

Wilson’s stellar performance included recording two eagles on his first nine holes and three consecutive birdies on the front nine, solidifying his lead. Though facing a challenge with back-to-back double bogeys, Wilson maintained his composure and finished strong with a birdie to secure the championship at 8-under (67-72-69), just one stroke ahead of Ince.

With this victory, Wilson has earned his spot in the 2024 Canadian Junior Boys Championship, presented by BDO, scheduled to take place from August 13-16 at Innisfail Golf Club in Innisfail, Alta. Expressing his excitement and gratitude for the win, Wilson views this accomplishment as a significant milestone in his junior golf career.
