Ella Toone stuns Leicester City with incredible goal to secure victory for Manchester United – Latest news and transfer rumors from the club

Man United's Ella Toone scores thunderbolt winner against Leicester City - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United Women secured a late 1-0 victory against a tough Leicester City side.

The Red Devils dominated the match but struggled to score until the 83rd minute, when Ella Toone came off the bench to score a spectacular winner. Her manager, Marc Skinner, described it as “a goal worthy of winning any game.”

After the match, Toone expressed her excitement at scoring her ninth WSL goal of the season. She stated, “yeah, it meant a lot. The girls dug deep and I knew my job was to come on and change the game, and that’s what I did.”

Regarding her goal, Toone modestly said, “it was a decent finish,” but off-camera joked that even the goalkeeper wouldn’t have saved it.

When asked if she knew the goal was in from the moment she struck it, Toone replied, “yeah, sometimes when you strike a ball and hit it clean, you know it’s going in. When I saw the keeper getting close to it and then it hit the back of the net, I was buzzing.”

Skinner had emphasized the need for ruthlessness in both boxes before the game, and while the attack lacked it, the defense remained solid and earned a crucial clean sheet against Leicester’s threats.

Full back Hannah Blundell praised the team’s unity and the impact of substitutes in changing games.

Referring to Toone’s goal, she said, “incredible, the subs that came on were fantastic. Tooney’s goal, I’m speechless. That’s Tooney for you, she can produce those moments and thankfully she did today to get us the win.”

She also lauded the defense for holding off Leicester’s late attacks and keeping a clean sheet. “Thankfully, we have a keeper like Mary in goal and the back four. They were fantastic today and throughout the season.”

United Women have three exciting games left in the season, including matches against Liverpool and Chelsea, with the FA Cup final against Tottenham in between, where they aim to lift the trophy at Wembley.
