Engram’s hamstring injury could sideline him for another game as Jaguars face potential absence

Evan Engram Jags pic

After two weeks of play in the 2024 NFL season, the Jacksonville Jaguars find themselves at 0-2. Both of their losses have come in close games. The Jags lost in Week 1 on a walk-off 52-yard field goal by Miami’s Jason Meyers. Last week, Jacksonville suffered an 18-13 defeat at home against the Browns.

Just before kickoff last Sunday, Jaguars starting TE Evan Engram injured his hamstring during pre-game warmups. Engram missed Week 2 and there are doubts about his availability for the upcoming game. Head coach Doug Pederson mentioned that Engram’s status for Week 3 is still uncertain.

Will Evan Engram be ready to play on Monday Night Football against the Bills?

In the first two games of the season, the Jacksonville Jaguars have scored two rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown. Both rushing touchdowns were scored in the Week 1 loss to the Dolphins. Travis Etienne has scored both rushing touchdowns while Trevor Lawrence has thrown the only passing touchdown. In the defeat to Miami, Lawrence threw for 162 yards and one touchdown. Rookie receiver Briam Thomas has recorded four catches for 47 yards and a touchdown. Starting TE Evan Engram caught just one pass for six yards on five targets.

Adding to the challenge, Engram suffered a hamstring injury prior to the Week 2 matchup against the Browns. Backup TE Brenton Strange stepped in for Week 2, tallying three catches for a career-best 65 yards. If Engram remains sidelined for Week 3, the Jaguars may have to rely on Strange. It’s early in the season and Jacksonville is cautious about risking a prolonged absence for Engram. Week 2 marked Engram’s first missed regular season game with the Jaguars. He has played in 17 games each of the last two seasons. Engram’s 114 receptions last season were the second-most by a TE in a single season. Jacksonville is eager to have Engram back on the field to provide a reliable target for Trevor Lawrence.
