Entry List Revealed for the 2024 Morocco Open in Rabat

2024 Morocco Open Rabat WTA Entry List

The 2024 Morocco Open is one of two WTA tournaments held on the African continent and will run from May 19th to 25th in Rabat, the country’s capital.

This WTA 250 event will act as the final prep before Roland Garros, especially for those players seeking additional matches and momentum. The Italians have dominated the winner’s circle with five names, including the past two editions.

Last year, Lucia Bronzetti scored some scorching wins over Tatjana Maria and Sloane Stephens to reach the final, where she upended Julia Grabher to win the title. The 25-year-old from Rimini is returning this year and will be the third seed.

The top seed at the event will be Yue Yuan. The Chinese woman has enjoyed a breakout year on tour, claiming a maiden title in Austin. Yuan’s first claycourt tournament of 2024 saw her reach the quarterfinal in Rouen.

Russia’s Anna Blinkova is the second seed, and the experienced Dutch lefty Arantxa Rus is the fourth seed. Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the sixth seed, will hope to keep the great tradition of Italian women excelling in Rabat.

Players with a high pedigree on the surface, such as Sara Sorribes Tormo, Nadia Podoroska, and Maria Camila Osorio, will also be in contention. The Colombian memorably won the WTA 250 in Bogota this year in style.

This tournament will mark the official return of 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu. The Canadian star has been out of action since August 2023 because of a back injury. She confirmed on Instagram that she will come back a week before Roland Garros.

Andreescu also intends to play at the Paris Olympics, so she will need to get into a rhythm in Rabat. Egypt’s Mayar Sherif will represent the African continent. She has not advanced beyond the round of 16 in each of her previous two trips to Rabat. The full entry list can be seen below.
