Chelsea Manager Provides Update on Cole Palmer’s Condition
Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s head coach, has revealed that midfielder Cole Palmer is continuing to play while dealing with discomfort from a persistent groin injury ahead of the upcoming match against Everton in the Premier League.
The situation surrounding the 23-year-old’s fitness has become increasingly worrying for Chelsea’s medical team, who are being cautious to prevent any further complications.
Palmer’s injury troubles began in September when he had to exit the game during Chelsea’s loss to Manchester United due to a groin concern.
What initially seemed like a minor issue has evolved into a prolonged challenge, keeping the England international out of action for a significant period.
Injury Setbacks for Palmer
As he approached a return to full fitness, a bizarre home accident led to Palmer fracturing his toe, pushing back his recovery once again.
These consecutive injuries have also hindered his progress after a promising start to the season, during which he quickly became one of Maresca’s essential creative players.
“With Cole, the more quality players you have, the better the team overall,” Maresca noted, according to reports.
“Regarding his mixed feelings, he had a training session with us, and overall it went well, but he still felt some pain.”
“He has been experiencing discomfort in his groin, and we need to keep an eye on it. I hope this won’t linger throughout the entire season, but it’s very much day-to-day. Some days it looks promising, while others aren’t as good.”
“For instance, after the game against Leeds, he felt quite bad the following day after playing half an hour. Conversely, after our match with Bournemouth, he was fine enough to play for an hour. There’s no clear pattern, and his condition seems to be decided on a day-by-day basis.”
“Currently, he definitely can’t start every match.”
Chelsea’s Upcoming Challenges
Chelsea is set to face vital fixtures in the coming weeks, including a matchup with Newcastle United, which is crucial for their aspirations to keep up with league leaders Arsenal and Manchester City.
