Erik ten Hag commends the progress of Marcus Rashford under private coaching – Latest news from Manchester United.

Marcus Rashford bogged down by the constant stream of criticism from former players - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has lavished praise on Marcus Rashford for doing extra fitness work over the international break.

Few stories in the United team are sadder than the decline of local hero Rashford.

Less than two years ago, he was a leading light for both club and country but his form has fallen off a cliff where he has yet to score or assist this season and only found the back of the net eight times in the entirety of last season.

Whilst many of his teammates have been on international duty since the defeat to Liverpool two weeks ago, he has been frozen out of the England squad owing to his poor form.

A source close to the club has claimed that he is being bogged down by unfair criticism of former players that negatively influence fan opinion of the 26 year old.

In response to his critics, he posted a video of himself on social media over the break putting in some hard yards to try and rediscover his past form with a private coach.

Speaking to MUTV about the video, manager Erik ten Hag praised the player’s work ethic to get back to the top.

“The players have to find a good balance between relaxation and keep going, keep in the rhythm you are in.”

“Experienced players can manage it by themselves and it’s very good that they are away from the club but do the right things, do the right drills, do the right load.”

“Because when they are back, we also train and that has to be combined with our training, of course.”

With pressure mounting on Ten Hag’s own future at the club, he will be banking on Rashford having a much improved season this year.

Fans will certainly appreciate Rashford’s efforts to get better but after months of disappointment, only game changing contributions from him will get most supporters back on side.
