Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has said that he has no desire to get rid of Scott McTominay this summer even as speculation over his future continues.
A year ago, West Ham failed with a bid to sign McTominay. The midfielder then proceeded to have a sensational season, netting a career-best 10 goals across all competitions.
His heroics in front of goal have unsurprisingly led to renewed interest in his services, with the 27-year-old linked to a number of clubs including Galatasaray, Fulham, and Tottenham Hotspur.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that despite United’s willingness to sell him for the right price, McTominay’s wish is to remain at Old Trafford.
It was suggested that a fee of £30 million could convince the Red Devils to part ways with their academy graduate.
Ten Hag opened up on McTominay’s situation and said, “We have very good players so there will always be an interest from other clubs.”
“When you score 10 goals in a season and also perform very good for Scotland, then there will be an interest.”
“But we want to keep him because he is a very important player for our squad.”
The Dutchman added, “What he can contribute, as we saw last season once we had our sixes available, he could play in a more advanced role and he is a highly interesting player for our team.”
As United travel to Los Angeles on Wednesday for the start of their pre-season tour, McTominay will be part of the squad.
The Scotland international missed the club’s pre-season clash against Rangers on Saturday. Ten Hag’s men won 2-0, with Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill finding the back of the net in either half.
It’s important to note that McTominay’s contract expires in 2025 although United retains the option of extending his terms by an additional 12 months.
