Erik ten Hag willing to consider selling Mason Mount as interest in midfielder grows – Manchester United News and Transfer Update

Erik ten Hag gives further update on Mason Mount's injury after latest setback - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have already sealed the signings of two of the hottest properties in Europe right now — Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, but more reinforcements are needed.

However, before proceeding further with their planned recruitment spree, INEOS need to be careful not to breach any PSR concerns and they will look to balance the books through player sales.

Casemiro, Scott McTominay and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are among the stars attracting the most interest but HITC Football have now added a brand new name to the list.

They have revealed that Erik ten Hag had a conversation with the new hierarchy regarding the players that can be moved on and the manager suggested Mason Mount could be let go.

Mount out ?

The England international only arrived last summer from Chelsea and was even handed the iconic No 7 jersey but the versatile midfielder hardly set the stage alight, mainly due to numerous injuries.

It was a strange signing considering the presence of Bruno Fernandes, who does everything and more Mount can do. While the squad depth definitely improved, splashing so much cash for a backup signing made little sense and it looks like it is set to get worse for the former Chelsea star.

In fact, the Englishman ended up missing 30 games in his debut campaign and the hope was that he might be able to show why the club splurged €64 million his services once fully fit.

But it seems INEOS are not as forgiving as the Glazers who have often kept players at the club just to try and recoup a fee from their sale later on. That policy did not help at all as the wage bill got bloated while players kept deteriorating further.

United are reportedly open to Mount’s sale after only one season with plenty of interest from fellow Premier League clubs including Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

Plenty of PL interest

“HITC understands that Manchester United would be open to the sale of Mason Mount and Antony this summer. There is interest from across the Premier League in the £60 million midfielder.

HITC understands that during conversations about the season, Erik Ten Hag spoke at length with the club’s footballing department about potential departures this summer and both Mount and Antony were confirmed as being options that the club would look at.

“It is our understanding that a number of clubs are being made aware of his situation and there is interest from Aston Villa, Tottenham Spur, and Newcastle United this summer and these clubs have been spoken to over a potential deal.”

Hopefully, Mount can impress the new hierarchy in pre-season and prove why he deserves to stay and fight for his place. United should give him one more season before calling it quits if it does not work out.
