Cardiff City’s hopes of reaching the EFL Championship promotion playoffs received another major boost on Wednesday as the Welsh squad extended their unbeaten run.
Ethan Horvath made two saves as Cardiff City defeated Huddersfield Town 1-0 on Wednesday night, moving seven points back of sixth place in England’s second-tier. The U.S. men’s national team goalkeeper registered his third clean sheet in his past four starts as the Bluebirds moved to four-straight matches unbeaten.
Famara Diedhiou’s first-half goal was all that the Bluebirds needed to claim three points at home against the visiting Terriers. It marked Diedhiou’s first goal for Cardiff City since arriving at the club.
Horvath, 28, arrived in Cardiff from Nottingham Forest last January on a permanent deal. He has since made six starts for the Bluebirds, conceding seven goals and posting three clean sheets.
Cardiff City continues its March schedule on Saturday at home against second-place Ipswich Town before a derby against rivals Swansea City ahead of the FIFA international break.
Horvath’s continued playing time could be crucial in him propelling past Matt Turner for the U.S. men’s national team’s No. 1 job.
