Eugenie Bouchard is set to play pickleball professionally in 2024, and she has already announced her first tournament of the season.
Only recently, the Canadian announced a surprising move to pickleball, but even despite the switch, she still competed on the WTA Tour and even represented Canada at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
However, one thing is now clear when it comes to her tennis career, and that’s the fact that Bouchard won’t compete at the 2024 Australian Open. That seemed to be confirmed already when she didn’t appear on the entry list, but she still could have received a surprising wild card.
But that won’t happen, as at the start of the tournament, Bouchard will be on a completely different continent, competing on the 2024 Carvana PPA Tour at the Hyundai Masters at Mission Hills Country Club in Palm Springs.
Bouchard is set to team up with Tyler Loong for mixed doubles at the event, and it will be her debut on the PPA Tour, as she has never played a professional pickleball tournament.
“I’m so excited to make my PPA Tour debut at the Masters in Palm Springs in January. I don’t really have any expectations as this will be my first event. I’m training hard and am excited to compete against the best players in the world. This will be a great moment to start my pickleball career.”
The 2014 Wimbledon finalist also won’t be the only professional tennis player competing, as she will be joined by the likes of Jack Sock, Sam Querrey, and Donald Young.
It will be interesting to see how Bouchard’s tennis career develops after the professional switch to pickleball, as she still seems to be trying to restart her tennis career, but at the same time, she seems to be doing two things at the same time, which may not be ideal.
