Quarterback Daniel Jones is a lightning rod for the New York Giants, yet the struggling franchise is fully committed to him for the fall season.
The number six pick out of Duke in the 2019 NFL draft is 14 games under .500 for his starting career and has one playoff trip to show for five seasons.
And that 2022 visit to the postseason was followed by an injury-marred 2023 that saw Jones start only six games.
The Giants went 1-5 with the fifth-year player under center.
Former NFL star LeSean McCoy told FS1’s Speak that the Giants are making a mistake by turning the team over to Jones in 2024.

McCoy noted that New York general manager Joe Schoen proclaimed, “This is the year for Daniel.”
That comment came after the team finished a dismal 6-11 last season.
McCoy added that he clearly does not see what everyone else apparently does in the young quarterback, and the team’s first mistake was wasting a No. 6 draft selection on Jones.
Then New York awarded Jones with a new four-year contract, seemingly cementing his tenure with the Giants far beyond what some consider reasonable for a quarterback who already suffered two neck injuries and a torn ACL.
It remains to be seen if Jones is primed and ready to start the season, and Drew Lock may get the call if he is not.
However, after reportedly being interested in drafting Drake Maye, the team decided to forego choosing another quarterback near the top of Day One and instead play the hand they already held.
A repeat of last season’s results, however, should see a marked change going into 2025.
