Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has received praise from his manager Kieran McKenna at Ipswich Town for his performances in the league.
Tuanzebe, a United academy graduate, played 37 times for the senior team and showcased potential by captaining the side against Rochdale in the Carabao Cup in 2019, as well as impressively handling Kylian Mbappe in a Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain in 2020.
However, his time at United was plagued by injuries, with only the 2020-2021 season seeing him make over 10 appearances. After unsuccessful loan spells at SSC Napoli and Stoke City, he reunited with his former coach Mckenna at Ipswich Town in 2023.
At 26 years old, Tuanzebe has made a strong start to life back in the Premier League, featuring in all four of Ipswich’s games at right back.
His standout performance came in Ipswich’s 0-0 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion, where he made seven clearances and won 80% of his ground duels. Manager McKenna praised Tuanzebe’s progress and resilience, highlighting his qualities on the field throughout the season.
Tuanzebe will face his former club, Manchester United, when they visit Portman Road on November 24, and he will return to Old Trafford in February with Ipswich Town as they continue their season.
