The NFL’s Week 8 brings an intriguing matchup between the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders, with anticipation building around a potential face-off between 2024’s top draft picks.

The excitement, however, remains tempered by uncertainty over whether both Williams and Daniels will take the field.

Former NFL coach Jay Gruden has been particularly impressed with Jayden Daniels’ rookie campaign.

“Jayden has been tremendous to me in all phases. In the pocket, outside the pocket, the red zone reads, the quarterback designed runs. He’s been awesome,” Gruden noted.

While acknowledging Caleb Williams’ superior arm talent, Gruden emphasized Daniels’ poise and leadership qualities, adding, “You don’t see any mistakes.”

The numbers back up Gruden’s assessment. Daniels has put up remarkable stats, completing 75.6% of his passes for 1,410 yards with six touchdowns against just two interceptions.

His dual-threat capabilities shine through with 372 rushing yards and four ground scores.

Williams hasn’t been far behind, demonstrating his own impressive rookie form.

The Bears quarterback has amassed 1,317 passing yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions, while adding 169 yards on the ground.

Their teams reflect this success, with the Commanders sitting at 5-2 and the Bears close behind at 4-2.

However, recent developments have cast a shadow over this anticipated matchup.

Daniels missed Wednesday’s practice following a rib injury sustained in the first quarter against Carolina.

Daniels’ absence from practice marks a significant disruption to his established routine.

Known for his exceptional preparation, he typically arrives at the facility around 5 a.m., often conducting personal walkthroughs an hour later.

Wednesday’s missed practice represents his first absence since joining the Commanders this spring.
