Ex-NFL Player Expresses Lack of Trust in Baker Mayfield

Former Player Says He Doesn't Trust Baker Mayfield

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell on the road in overtime to the rival Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night by a score of 36-30.

Former Pro Bowl running back and current NFL analyst LeSean McCoy was asked if he trusts Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield despite the tough loss.

“I never really did trust Baker…I can’t say that,” McCoy said Friday on Fox Sports’s The Facility.

This is an interesting take from McCoy.

Last season, Mayfield had a resurgence as he led the Bucs to the playoffs after setting career-highs in touchdown passes (28) and passing yards (4,044).

This season, he has gotten off to a fantastic start.

The former Heisman winner has thrown 11 touchdowns, two interceptions, and has a passer rating of over 112.0.

Against the Bucs on Thursday night, Mayfield played well.

Despite not throwing for over 180 yards, he threw three touchdowns, completed almost 80% of his passes, and he had a passer rating of 137.5.

The bigger issue was Tampa’s defense more than anything else.

Giving up 36 points to an offense that was struggling to score 20+ points is unacceptable if you are head coach Todd Bowles.

Tampa Bay was on the cusp of winning the game late in the fourth quarter, but a fumble from rookie Bucky Irving did not help things much.

Time will tell to see if Tampa Bay can rebound from this loss after the long week off.

Next up on their schedule is another NFC South rival in the New Orleans Saints, who have cooled off from their blistering 2-0 start to the season.
