It is said that quarterbacks receive far too much credit when their teams win and an outsized level of criticism when they lose.

Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen is well acquainted with the double-edged sword that comes with his position, and he is often the target for those frustrated that he has not led his team to a Super Bowl.

An NFL executive who spoke anonymously came down hard on the Bills star.

He declared Allen to be “one of the most overrated players. Immense talent but he makes a lot of mistakes. He’s underdeveloped at winning at the line of scrimmage, tends to lock on to targets, more of a thrower than a precision passer, forces throws into traffic.”

This take was enough to draw a strong backlash from a former player.

James Jones told FS1’s Speak that he is tired of hearing anonymous criticism of Allen.

First, Jones took the unnamed executive to task for hiding behind anonymity and taking shots at Allen.

He further noted that every player in the NFL has aspects of their game that need work, and that there is no perfect specimen on the gridiron.

In that light, if Allen is overrated, then every player who wears the uniform is also overrated.

Jones showed a graphic comparing the young careers of Allen and Patrick Mahomes, who everyone is compared to in 2024.

They are remarkably similar.

Granted, Mahomes has three Super Bowl rings, but Jones corrected declared that Allen is a “phenomenally talented” quarterback, and there are ridiculously few NFL teams that would not love to have him in their backfield.
