Ex-NFL Player Suggests Trevor Lawrence’s Contract Extension Will Have Dual Benefits for Quarterbacks

The Jacksonville Jaguars made waves recently by finally inking their franchise quarterback in Trevor Lawrence to a major extension.

The extension goes for five years and is worth an average of $55 million per year.

Fox Sports analyst and Super Bowl champion Plaxico Burress believes this new deal has opened the door for two other quarterbacks to get major deals with their respective teams.

“Look at Tua and the season he had last year. Now he’s sitting back like, ‘well, if Trevor Lawrence can go get this kind of money, myself and Jordan Love included, we’re better than Trevor Lawrence’,” Burress recently stated on The Carton Show.

Tua Tagovailoa and Jordan Love are possibly the next two young quarterbacks in line for major money.

Both are ascending players coming off of their best seasons as pros, even though Love has technically only started one full season.

Regardless, this Lawrence extension has really opened the door for both of these players to get paid.

Lawrence is a Pro Bowl-caliber kind of quarterback but has only led his team to the playoffs once in three years.

He has also thrown 39 interceptions in three years.

Tagovailoa has led the Dolphins to back-to-back playoff appearances and also led the league in either passer rating or passing yards in each of the last two seasons.

Love, in his first full season taking over for Aaron Rodgers, finished second in the league in touchdown passes (32) and nearly took Green Bay to the NFC Championship Game.

If Lawrence has gotten this big of a contract, Tagovailoa and Love could both get an even bigger one.
