Ex-Real Madrid Star Urges Club to Adapt to Life without “Invaluable” Kroos

Real Madrid Legend Toni Kroos Retires

Former Real Madrid star Ivan Zamorano expressed surprise at Toni Kroos’ decision to retire and advised Real Madrid to move forward without the “irreplaceable” German midfielder.

Ivan Zamorano Advises Real Madrid Not to Dwell on Toni Kroos’ Exit

On May 21, 2024, Kroos, one of Real Madrid’s finest midfielders, announced his retirement from club soccer at the end of the 2023-24 season and from internationals after the 2024 European Championship.

Zamorano, who played for Real Madrid from 1992 to 1996, was taken aback by Kroos’ decision. In an interview with Diario AS, Zamorano stated:

Of course [Kroos’ absence affects], but the idea is not to dwell on Kroos and his departure, but to adapt and move forward. His legacy is remarkable, but the less we focus on him, the better for Madrid.”

Zamorano emphasized Kroos’ irreplaceable role and noted the midfielder’s impact, especially after leaving the club. He mentioned:

I am quite surprised. What stands out to me is his increased importance even in his absence. Kroos may be irreplaceable, but it’s worth remembering that he faced criticism in the past, particularly regarding his physical condition.

Zamorano also discussed Real Madrid’s performance in the current season.

Concluding his thoughts, the former center-forward added:

They have not performed up to their usual standards this season, with only sporadic moments of brilliance. However, with the addition of Mbappe, I am confident they will regain their form and play at the level expected of a champion in both La Liga and the Champions League.”

Kroos Defined an Era at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium

After success at Bayern Munich, Kroos made a significant impact at Real Madrid upon his arrival in 2014. He quickly formed a strong partnership with Luka Modric, impressing fans with his precise passing, game intelligence, composure under pressure, and ability to control matches. Throughout his tenure in Spain, Kroos elevated his game and established himself as a legendary figure.

From 2014 to 2024, Kroos played 465 games, scoring 28 goals and providing 99 assists. He secured 23 trophies, including five UEFA Champions League and four La Liga titles.
