The NFL universe is in a state of eager anticipation over the next huge quarterback contract, and the question is not if but who and how much.

For total contract value, Patrick Mahomes still leads his position with a $450 million deal, per Spotrac.

But in a second-place tie is Trevor Lawrence, whose newly minted $275 million contract with Jacksonville sent shock waves across the league landscape.

Former NFL executive Michael Lombardi told Pat McAfee that the next domino to fall could be in Los Angeles or Miami.

The question is, will the Rams pay up for Matthew Stafford’s services, and will the Dolphins back up the Brinks truck to secure Tua Tagovailoa for the long term?

Stafford’s current deal ends in 2026, and he is on record wanting to ink an extension to remain in Los Angeles where he led the Rams to a Super Bowl victory.

The situation is much different in Miami, where Tagovailoa enters the final year of his rookie contract and expects to get a payday that is certainly comparable to that enjoyed by Lawrence.

After all, the Alabama product sports an impressive 32-19 record and leads one of the most potent offenses in the NFL.

And Miami appears on the verge of breaking that dreadful streak of not winning a playoff game since 2000.

In the current NFL market, Tagovailoa’s value would be off the charts, and there is little to no chance that a deal will not get done in Miami.

As Lombardi noted, it could be one for the record books.
