Exclusive: Inside Scoop on Bobby Bonilla Day Unveiled by Insider

Insider Reveals Wild Fact About Bobby Bonilla Day

Bobby Bonilla #25 of the New York Mets looks on during the game against the Montreal Expos at the Shea Stadium in Flushing, New York. The Expos defeated the Mets 4-2.

It’s officially July 1, an infamous date for the New York Mets and their fans.

Just like every year, Bobby Bonilla will get a big check of roughly $1.193 million from the Mets, a tradition that has been around since 2011 and that won’t stop until 2035.

Bonilla hasn’t played since 2001, yet he’s still making more money than some current pro athletes.

As shown by NFL insider Adam Schefter, Bonilla will make $208,000 more than the $985,000 base salary that Brock Purdy will make with the San Francisco 49ers this season.

Back in 2000, the Mets agreed to buy Bonilla out of the final $5.9 million of his contract.

However, instead of just giving him the money at the time, the Mets proposed to make annual payments for 25 years starting July 1, 2011, including an 8% interest.

In the end, the outfielder wound up making a great deal, as that $5.9 million will end up being almost $30 million by the time the Mets are done.

As for Purdy, he might have the best contract in the entire National Football League in terms of value.

He’s been the ultimate bargain for the Niners, but that situation isn’t likely to go on for much longer.

GM John Lynch and even CEO Jed York have talked about making right by him with a very lucrative contract extension.
