Exclusive Interview with Kriss Akabusi on His Golf Travels

ME AND MY TRAVELS: KRISS AKABUSI - Golf News

The former Olympic 400-metre hurdler medal winner can’t get enough of La Manga and never leaves home without his toothbrush

My first holiday was… a day trip to Great Yarmouth as a child, if that counts as a holiday.

I always travel with… my toothbrush!

My most recent holiday was to… Tenerife on a golfing holiday.

No matter where I am… I’m always smiling. It doesn’t cost anything and a smile and a laugh can change someone’s day.

My favourite golf course in the world is… Royal Westmoreland in Barbados.

La Manga Resort, Murcia

My ideal travelling golf partners… are my friends who shall remain nameless.

My best ever round was… an 82 at Aldenham Golf & Country Club in Hertfordshire, It’s not a championship course by an stretch of the imagination, but it suits my game perfectly. My ambition is to break 80.

My favourite golf resort is… La Manga. The three golf courses are superb, the weather is great and the facilities for kids are brilliant. What more could you ask for?

The best hotel I’ve ever stayed at was… The Palazzo San Domenico in Sicily. It has been converted from an old monastery, and is both secluded and luxurious. All the staff wore slightly antiquated clothing, but the service was impeccable and I felt like a king during my stay.

My favourite city in the world is… Without doubt London, it has everything, I know it was a while ago now, but the Olympics in 2012 was just incredible, my only regret was that I wasn’t in my prime to win a medal then.

My most memorable meal abroad was… a BBQ on a yacht just off Bondi Beach in Austrailia.

The thing I hate about travel… is airports, some people just love them, I’m not one of them.

The worst holiday I’ve ever had was… camping as a little boy in the cubs, rain, rain and more rain.

My top travel tip is…. wherever you go, take in the local culture and talk to the locals as much as you can.
