Although it seems that many West Ham fans aren’t happy with the way in which David Moyes sets his stall out in games, they can’t really complain about the players that sporting director, Tim Steidten has brought in.
The likes of Mo Kudus and Edson Alvarez have given the Hammers the edge in many games regardless of whether the Scot sometimes doesn’t utilise the players he has available to the best of their ability.
Steidten has been like a breath of fresh air in terms of his outlook and what he brings to the club, and that’s maybe what has irked Moyes, as reports of a rift between the pair continue.
Should the former Bayer Leverkusen man leave the London Stadium outfit, they’ll be much the poorer.
“There would appear to be multiple stories in the media which suggest that Tim Steidten is going to walk away from West Ham if David Moyes stays. To be completely honest guys, I don’t have anything confirmed on this at this stage,” Fabrizio Romano said in his exclusive Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside.
“For sure, losing Tim Steidten would be a huge loss for West Ham in any case, as he did an excellent job in the summer.
“There were important signings made and a new, fresh vision for the club in terms of the project, other signings and more. He’s done great work at both Leverkusen and West Ham recently.”
At this stage of the season, the Hammers have just gone off the boil and slipped out of the top six.
With a few tough games ahead, they really need to dig in and pull themselves back in to Europa League contention for next season and to give themselves the confidence to go deeper into the secondary European competition for the remainder of this campaign.
Should Moyes, as expected, sign his new deal either before the end of the 2023/24 season or in the summer, that’s likely to ensure that Steidten walks.
All of the good work that he will have done will then seemingly be undone, and the Irons will be back to square one again.
It’s on the board to do what they believe is best, but if they shoot themselves in the foot again, the London Stadium faithful will make their feelings known.
