Executing Some Deadline Trades: 2024 Edition

Let’s Make Some Deadline Trades! (2024 Edition)

We are now less than a week away from the July 30 trade deadline, and aside from the Hunter Harvey trade before the All-Star break, not much has transpired. However, that could soon change in the upcoming days. As is my custom, I have put forth eight potential trades that teams may want to consider to address both short-term and long-term organizational needs.

The Baltimore Orioles could acquire pitcher Garrett Crochet from the White Sox in exchange for prospects Coby Mayo, Enrique Bradfield Jr., and Chayce McDermott. While the White Sox may desire a significant return for Crochet, I believe Mayo holds substantial value and could be a key piece in this trade. The Orioles have the flexibility to be aggressive in this deal, but adding more star power could increase the risk.

The Houston Astros might consider trading for corner infielder Isaac Paredes from the Tampa Bay Rays. Paredes could help fill the Astros’ first base void and potentially replace third baseman Alex Bregman in the future. However, the Astros will need to offer a compelling package, likely including their top prospect Jacob Melton, to entice the Rays.

In a potential trade between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Detroit Tigers, the Dodgers could acquire pitcher Jack Flaherty for pitcher Justin Wrobleski and shortstop Trey Sweeney. Flaherty, a pending free agent, has been impressive this season but could be a rental for the Dodgers. Adding another durable pitcher before the deadline could benefit the Dodgers as they head into the playoffs.

The Seattle Mariners may explore a trade for Yandy Díaz and Randy Arozarena from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for a package of pitching prospects Logan Evans, Emerson Hancock, and Michael Morales. Díaz and Arozarena could provide a boost to the Mariners’ struggling offense, especially with their cost-controlled contracts. The Rays have a penchant for intriguing pitching prospects, making this a potential match.

These proposed trades are based on speculated needs and potential benefits for each team involved. It’s essential to note that these are not reported discussions but rather hypothetical scenarios to spark conversation and analysis. Feel free to share your thoughts on these trade ideas and offer your own suggestions in the comments section!
