People across the football world are talking about the new bag Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars just secured on Thursday.
The 24-year-old quarterback, who was the No. 1 pick in the 2021 draft, agreed to a contract extension that will pay him $275 million over five years and will keep him under contract through 2030, which seems like a very long time from now.
There are those who feel he doesn’t deserve this humongous extension that will make him the highest-paid player in the NFL in terms of annual salary along with Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, whom most agree is a much better QB than him.
In fact, on FS1’s “Speak,” Emmanuel Acho took it a step further by saying Lawrence only got such a gigantic extension because he was a great player at Clemson.
If nobody else will say it, I will: Trevor Lawrence is getting paid because of what he did at Clemson. He’s still getting paid off promise, not production. pic.com/2g41gVEWF3

In three years at Clemson, Lawrence threw for over 3,000 yards each season, and for his career, he notched 90 touchdown passes against just 17 interceptions while adding 18 touchdowns on the ground.
As a freshman, he led his team to a win in the College Football Playoff National Championship game over the University of Alabama, who had Jalen Hurts and a freshman named Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback.
Lawrence won the Offensive MVP award for that game with 347 passing yards and three touchdown passes.
After a furious end to the 2021 season that earned him a Pro Bowl spot, his numbers dipped a bit last season, and for him to prove he’s worth every penny of his extension, he will have to significantly raise his production.
Ultimately, he will also have to take the Jaguars very deep in the playoffs and give them a real shot at winning a Super Bowl championship.
