Exploring De’Shaan Dixon’s Journey from Chesapeake to Sacksonville in the NFL

From Chesapeake to Sacksonville, Exploring De'Shaan Dixon's Path to the NFL

The NFL consists of 32 teams, with 90 spots available every offseason for a total of 2,880 players. However, during the regular season, the roster is reduced to 53 spots per team, resulting in a total of 1,696 players. Among these are over 250 draft picks and numerous undrafted free agents, making the competition fierce. Despite the challenges, De’Shaan Dixon managed to secure a spot with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In an exclusive interview, he shared his journey to the NFL.

Dixon was born on Dec. 16, 1998, in Oklahoma City and raised in Nashville, N.C. He later settled in Chesapeake, Va., after feeling that it offered a fresh start. At Western Branch High School, Dixon initially played as a wide receiver and tight end before transitioning to defensive end. Despite facing doubts about his size, Dixon excelled in football, earning accolades such as first-team All-Tidewater defensive end and all-state selection.

Following his senior season, Dixon had limited Division I offers but ultimately committed to Norfolk State. Under the coaching of Justin Williamson, Dixon experienced a breakthrough junior season, leading to career highs in his senior year. The birth of his first child, Kori, further fueled his motivation to excel on the field.

Dixon’s success at Norfolk State garnered attention from NFL scouts, leading to invitations to prestigious all-star games like the East-West Shrine Bowl and HBCU Legacy Bowl. Despite going undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft, Dixon received offers from multiple teams as an undrafted free agent. He eventually signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he impressed during the preseason with a standout performance against the Atlanta Falcons.

After anxiously waiting for final roster cuts, Dixon was relieved to learn that he had made the Jaguars’ 53-man roster. His perseverance and determination had paid off, solidifying his place in the NFL as a testament to his hard work and talent.
