The Football Association has imposed a £150,000 penalty on Chelsea following a frustrating touchline incident that occurred during their Premier League loss to Aston Villa last month.

A Regulatory Commission examined the match footage and determined that Chelsea was collectively accountable for the chaos that ensued after the final whistle.

FA Details Chelsea’s Fine

The controversy emerged when a water bottle was thrown from Chelsea’s technical area towards the Aston Villa bench, escalating tensions on the sidelines.

Although the individual responsible was not identified, Chelsea chose to accept the charge of collective misconduct.

The commission labeled the action as ‘dangerous’, highlighting its potential to further aggravate an already charged atmosphere, which contributed to the significant financial penalty.

In their statement, the FA outlined the basis for the sanction:

“Chelsea FC has been punished for a violation of FA Rule E20.1 that took place during its Premier League game against Aston Villa FC on Saturday, December 27, 2025. It was claimed that the club did not ensure its players and/or relevant personnel around the technical area behaved in an appropriate manner after the final whistle.”

Chelsea Under New Manager Liam Rosenior

Liam Rosenior, Manager of Chelsea, acknowledges the fans after the UEFA Champions League match

Rosenior has seen a promising start in his new role at Chelsea, beginning with a decisive 5-1 win over Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup that showcased an impressive style of attacking football.

With three victories from four matches, Chelsea’s only setback was against Arsenal in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final.

The squad has shown positive responsiveness to his new strategies, injecting optimism into the team’s dynamics.

With the FA inquiry concluded, Rosenior will aim to maintain tight discipline as he works to elevate Chelsea’s position in the Premier League standings.
