Fabrizio Romano delivers latest news on Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana

Chelsea FC advised to change striker transfer plans

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana believes that fans have only seen a fraction of his true potential since he joined the club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Fofana completed a move from Leicester City to Chelsea in 2022 for an initial £70m, but his time at Stamford Bridge has been overshadowed by injury setbacks.

The French international missed the entirety of last season due to an ACL injury but has now regained fitness and has been a regular feature in Enzo Maresca’s lineup.

Fofana Unveils His Potential

The 23-year-old has started in all five of Chelsea’s league games and forms part of Maresca’s preferred defensive duo alongside Levi Colwill.

Chelsea conceded a record number of goals last season and let in two goals in each of their first two league matches.

However, signs of defensive improvement are beginning to show as they kept clean sheets against Bournemouth and West Ham, with Fofana playing a pivotal role in the backline.

Earlier this summer, Fofana revealed that he turned down an approach from Marseille, showing his commitment to Chelsea. Romano has shared an update on Fofana’s situation.

“Wesley Fofana decided to continue at Chelsea in the summer, he feels fans have only seen 10-20% of his real potential,” he said on The Here We Go Podcast.

“He feels it will take time after the injury, but he wants to be part of the project. He wants to repay Chelsea, and also the club trusts him and didn’t want to sell him.”

This season is crucial for Fofana as he aims to revitalize his Chelsea career after a lengthy period on the sidelines. When fully fit and in form, Fofana is arguably Chelsea’s top center-back, and Maresca will need to manage his workload carefully as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury.
