Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has rubbished reports that Manchester United are currently pursuing a big-money move for Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.
Midfield appears to be an area of the pitch United will look to address in the upcoming windows, either in January or the summer.
Uncertainty is looming over the long-term future of Casemiro, who appears to have fallen down the pecking order and continues to be linked with an exit from Old Trafford.
32-year-old Christian Eriksen is also set to be a free agent in June 2025 and if he departs, he will almost certainly need to be replaced.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person named Barella as a player the Red Devils are keen on landing in an effort to bolster their options in the middle of the park.
It was stated that United are “preparing an offer” to the tune of €75 million, for a star Erik ten Hag is “convinced” is the “ideal man” to improve the club’s fortunes in the midfield.
However, Romano has refuted such suggestions as he insisted that there are currently no indications that Barella is on the Red Devils’ transfer radar.
The Italian journalist wrote in his Daily Briefing, “Despite the rumours linking Nicolo Barella with a €75m move to Manchester United, I have zero information on this.”
“He only extended his contract at Inter just a few months ago, and he’s a key player for them.”
“I don’t even know where this information is coming from!”
Barella helped Inter win the Serie A title in the 2023/24 season and has consistently been one of the Nerazzuri’s most important players under Simone Inzaghi.
At the moment, it seems that a potential switch to United is not on the cards.
