Fabrizio Romano Examines Premier League Clubs Eyeing Real Madrid Star

Real Madrid Manager Carlo Ancelotti

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has offered his insights on the potential interest of Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United in Real Madrid’s left-back Ferland Mendy. Romano suggests that Real Madrid has not yet made a decision regarding their primary left-back but is unlikely to carry three left-backs into the upcoming season.

Real Madrid is reportedly eyeing a move for Bayern Munich’s rapid left-back Alphonso Davies in the upcoming summer transfer window. Reports indicate that Davies may be open to a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu as he is not in good terms with the current Bayern Munich leadership and is hesitant to extend his contract. However, Real Madrid will only pursue Davies if Bayern sets a reasonable asking price, otherwise, they may wait until 2025 when he becomes a free agent.

If Davies does make the move to Real Madrid, it could leave Mendy and Fran Garcia facing increased competition for playing time. Mendy, in particular, may seek an exit from the club to avoid playing second fiddle to Davies. Clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United are monitoring the situation and could make a move for Mendy if the opportunity arises.

In his Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, Romano addressed the potential transfer of Davies to Real Madrid and the interest of Premier League clubs in Mendy. He clarified that while Mendy has been linked with a move away from Real Madrid, his future is still open and could go either way.

Real Madrid’s need to balance their left-back options means that they would only pursue Davies if they offload a current left-back. Mendy, who joined the club in 2019 and has made 165 appearances, could be the player to make way if Davies signs for the Spanish giants. Mendy, 28, has contributed six goals and 10 assists during his time at Real Madrid.
