Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher could face an ultimatum this summer if he still hasn’t resolved his contract situation by then, according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for the latest edition of his Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that there was still no concrete update on Gallagher’s situation, even though there were so many stories about the England international in January.
One imagines Gallagher will continue to attract speculation as he’s been in fine form for Chelsea this season, and there’ll surely be many Blues fans who will want to see him put pen to paper on a new deal as soon as possible.
The 24-year-old could surely have plenty of suitors in the Premier League and perhaps elsewhere in Europe, especially if he ends up being available for below market value this summer due to the fact that he’ll be a year away from being a free agent.
It seems it might still be some time before any concrete updates, however, according to Romano.
“Conor Gallagher is another name at Chelsea continuing to attract headlines, but it’s another one that’s not resolved yet. Despite reports from some sources that Chelsea have now decided to sell the midfielder, there’s nothing confirmed yet. We will see in the next months,” Romano said.
“At the moment Gallagher’s contract situation remains the same; of course if he arrives to June/July out of contract in 2025, it will be again be an extend-or-sell situation for Gallagher. But nothing is concrete at this stage – in January we had 100 rumours per day but nothing happened, not even negotiations.”
