Fabrizio Romano reports Raphael Varane as top transfer target for Serie A newcomers Como – Latest on Man United’s pursuit

Fabrizio Romano: Raphael Varane the "dream target" for newly-promoted Serie A side Como - Man United News And Transfer News

Raphael Varane is the number one target for Italian side Como in this summer, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Varane confirmed his Manchester United departure in May and he’s officially set to part ways with the club at the end of this month once his contract expires.

United retained an option to extend his stay at Old Trafford by an extra 12 months but Erik ten Hag’s side decided not to trigger this clause.

Varane’s situation means that he has been able to hold talks with overseas clubs for the past six months, but no decision has been made on his future.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Frenchman was in talks with MLS club Inter Miami to join them and play alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez – two players he regularly came up against during his highly successful spell in Spain with Real Madrid.

According to Fabrizio Romano, newly promoted Serie A outfit Como have emerged as candidates to secure Varane’s services.

Como attained automatic promotion to Italy’s top flight after finishing in second place in Serie B.

Former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is assistant manager to Osian Roberts at Como.

Romano wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Como’s dream target for the centre back position is Raphael Varane as free agent.”

“Cesc Fabregas wants Varane and they will try to make it happen, but there are several clubs interested in Europe and abroad — not an easy one.”

“Varane will decide his future soon.”

Varane made 95 appearances for United during his time at the club. He helped the 20-time English champions win the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
