Fabrizio Romano Reveals Chelsea’s Summer Transfer Plans: 4 Players Set to Depart

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino

According to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea is expected to part ways with four players in the upcoming 2024-25 season. Romano has identified Romelu Lukaku, Hakim Ziyech, Armando Broja, and Ian Maatsen as players who are unlikely to feature for the club and are likely to be offloaded in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea Will Get Rid Of At Least Four Loanees, Suggests Fabrizio Romano

Premier League giants Chelsea have a large squad and often choose to loan out players who are not in their immediate plans. This allows them to showcase their talents and potentially attract interest from other clubs. Last summer, Lukaku and Ziyech were loaned out to AS Roma and Galatasaray respectively, while Broja and Maatsen found temporary homes at Fulham and Borussia Dortmund. It is now believed that these four players do not feature in Mauricio Pochettino’s future plans for the team.

According to Romano’s Daily Briefing column on CaughtOffside, the likelihood of player departures from Chelsea this summer is high, especially for those currently out on loan.

We’re likely to see departures at Chelsea this summer, particularly with the players who are currently out on loan. As previously reported, the plan is for Armando Broja to be sold once he comes back from his loan at Fulham, and Hakim Ziyech can already be considered to have played his last game for Chelsea. I also expect Romelu Lukaku and Ian Maatsen to leave Chelsea, but for the others, we have to wait and see what happens.

How Have The Four Loanees Fared This Season

Lukaku, who made a big-money move from Inter Milan to Chelsea in 2021, has performed well at AS Roma, scoring 20 goals and providing 4 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions. Ziyech, signed for €40 million in 2020, has had a mixed season plagued by fitness issues, scoring 8 goals and providing 4 assists in 21 games.

Maatsen, a youth product of Chelsea, has impressed at Borussia Dortmund with 2 goals and 2 assists in 20 matches and is expected to feature in the Champions League final. On the other hand, Broja has had limited game time at Fulham, managing only an assist in 7 Premier League appearances.
