Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has rubbished suggestions that Manchester United are plotting to use Mason Greenwood as a makeweight in a deal to land Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer.
United are planning for the recruitment of defensive reinforcements and have earmarked Bremer as a top candidate to arrive at Old Trafford.
The Brazilian has a release clause of between €60 and €70 million and a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United could potentially include Greenwood in their pursuit of the defender to motivate Juventus to lower their asking price for Bremer.
Greenwood’s future is one of the main topics Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS will undoubtedly need to resolve during the summer.
Several clubs are believed to be interested in adding the Englishman – who is currently on loan at La Liga side Getafe – to their ranks and provide him with a new home. Juventus are admirers of Greenwood and are understood to have identified the forward as a player who could help buttress their attacking department.
Former United goalkeeper Sergio Romero explained that Greenwood would perfectly complement the likes of Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic, who are currently Juventus’ primary source of goals.
However, according to Romano, the Serie A giants are not as keen on Greenwood as has been claimed, meaning there is little to no chance they would accept him as part of a move that would see Bremer complete a switch to Old Trafford.
The Italian journalist said, “I don’t think Juventus will go for Mason Greenwood.”
“From what I hear, they have different options in those positions. It is not a priority for them.”
“At the moment I am not aware of any contact between Juventus and Greenwood.”
Romano added, “Man United’s interest in Gleison Bremer is not linked to Greenwood.”
It seems like the Red Devils may have to proceed with a straightforward push to secure Bremer’s services if they are indeed keen on him becoming the latest addition to Erik ten Hag’s backline.
Meanwhile, Greenwood who has plundered eight goals and five assists in 28 games for Getafe across all competitions, is unlikely to be short of suitors for his signature.
