After a forgettable 2023 NFL season, the New York Giants opened the 2024 NFL season on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings with high hopes of a fresh start and leaving last year’s struggles in the past.
However, the Giants faced difficulties in Week 1 against the Vikings, with veteran quarterback Daniel Jones underperforming and raising questions about his starting role.
New York’s offense sputtered, despite Jones connecting with rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers for 66 receiving yards, as the absence of star running back Saquon Barkley, now with the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles, was evident.
To make matters worse, Barkley excelled for the Eagles in his debut, while the Giants could only manage to score six points, far below the 28 points scored by the Vikings.
With the game slipping away, Giants fans began leaving MetLife Stadium early, particularly after Jones threw an interception returned for a touchdown in the third quarter.
With all eyes on Jones going forward, the pressure is on the quarterback to turn things around for the Giants under head coach Brian Daboll. Failure to show improvements could jeopardize Daboll’s job security, especially after a disappointing previous season.
