The New York Jets quarterback carousel continued to spin this week after Zach Wilson suffered a concussion during Week 15.
The team began the year with Aaron Rodgers, who tore his Achilles, then moved on to Wilson before switching to Tim Boyle midway through the season
Wilson regained the starting job two weeks ago, but now won’t be healthy enough to suit up in Week 16.
That will force the Jets to start their fourth different quarterback this season in a match against the Washington Commanders after the team announced it will start Trevor Siemian under center via Ian Rapoport.
#Jets QB Zach Wilson (concussion) is out for Sunday, and coach Robert Saleh said Aaron Rodgers will not be the third QB. Trevor Siemian and Brett Rypien are the team’s QBs.

A hearty thanks to the Jets for deciding Joe Flacco wasn’t worth being on the roster. 🤝🤝🤝 pic.twitter.com/Jx40k7DWgO

Siemian took over for Wilson midway through the team’s 30-0 loss to the Miami Dolphins this past week and wasn’t very good: He completed just 14-of-26 passing attempts for 110 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Brett Rypien, who the Jets signed to their practice squad on Dec. 5, will be the team’s backup quarterback.
Even though New York activated Rodgers off injured reserve this week, the veteran will not suit up.
The Jets really aren’t playing for much in this game after being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs this past week.
The best the team can hope for now is more experience for their young players and, if they lose, a better draft pick in the spring.
This further complicates Wilson’s future with the team as well.
The Jets will turn back to Rodgers next year, which would relegate Wilson back to the No. 2 role.
The team has reportedly talked about trading Wilson this offseason, though Saleh refused to confirm or deny it earlier this year.
For now, the Jets are going with Siemian.
