Golf News Editor Nick Bayly Reviews the New Callaway Apex Ai300 Irons
As a 13 handicapper with an 18 handicapper’s iron game, I like plenty of forgiveness built into my irons. However, Callaway’s new Ai300 irons are slightly more compact in dimensions and overall look at address than expected for a club in the game improvement category.
Despite this, the Ai300 irons are positioned towards the lower end of the handicap category and will appeal to decent ball strikers. They offer performance gains in terms of ball speeds, consistent distance, and forgiveness on off-center strikes.

The higher ball flight of the Ai300s, assisted by the head weighting, results in shots that ‘drop and stop’ on greens, showcasing the enhanced spin in Callaway’s updated Apex model.
My shots with the Ai300s showed increased distance and consistent dispersal when hitting various shots with each iron in the set.
The lower irons, 9 and PW, effortlessly get the ball airborne, making them ideal for players struggling with approach shots, as they deliver a high ball flight for softer landings.

These irons impressed me by maintaining performance even on less than perfect strikes. They provide enhanced turf interaction for mishits, ideal for players seeking more consistency in their swing.
Overall, the Callaway Apex Ai300 irons are a well-conceived and executed set of game-improvement irons. They offer clear performance benefits for mid-to-high handicappers and encourage players to improve their ball striking ability rather than relying solely on the club’s assistance.
